Jack Whipple

Jack Whipple, 68, of Laceyville, PA, passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 4, 2018 at his home on Edinger Hill surrounded by his family.

Born on May 26, 1949 in Meshoppen, he was the son of the late Carl Whipple, who passed away on July 22, 1978, and Lucy Pickett Whipple, who passed away on Dec. 30, 2001.

He graduated from Wyalusing Valley High School with the Class of 1967. After high school, Jack proudly served his country in the United States Navy from January 1969 until December 1972. He graduated from Pennsylvania State University with the Class of 1975 with a degree in electrical engineering.

Jack owned and operated his own construction business for a number of years. He was a member of the Rought Hall Post #510 American Legion in Black Walnut. He was an outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing, as well as kayaking with his daughter, Lydia. He also liked gardening and woodworking. Most of all, Jack loved to spend time with his family and enjoyed going to his children’s sporting events in their younger lives throughout their high school years.

He is survived by his son, Daniel

Scavone) of Tunkhannock; his daughter, Lydia Whipple of Laceyville; his sister, Ellen Whipple of

Laceyville, as well as many cousins.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Sheldon

Funeral Home, 459 Main Street, Laceyville, with Reverend Mark King, a longtime family friend, officiating. Interment followed at Lacey Street Cemetery.

Family and friends called at the funeral home on Tuesday evening, Jan. 9 from 4 to 7 p.m. Military services were conducted at the funeral home by members of the Rought Hall Post #510 American Legion of Black Walnut, the Dennis Strong Post #457 American Legion of Tunkhannock and the Endless Mountains VFW Post #3583 of Mehoopany.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hunts for Healing, 3 Coburn Hill Road, Laceyville, PA 18623 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
