Two Fatal Crashes in Bradford County on Wednesday

A pair of fatal crashes occurred in Bradford County on Wednesday, March 7, which claimed the lives of a teen girl as well as 21-year-old man from Sayre.

The first crash occurred just after 8:30 a.m. along Orwell Hill Road near Kadar Road in Orwell Township.

A 17-year-old female was traveling west with two passengers, an 11-year-old male and a 15-year-old female. She reportedly failed to negotiate a left-hand curve in the roadway and crossed into the opposing lane, leading to a collision with an eastbound vehicle driven by Ray Sechrist, 59, of Rome.

As a result of the crash, the 15-year-old female passed away while the 17-year-old driver and 11-year-old boy sustained injuries. The boy was reportedly flown to Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital.

Sechrist also sustained injuries and was taken by ambulance to the same hospital.

All individuals involved were reportedly wearing seatbelts, according to state police.

The second fatal crash occurred around 2:30 p.m., when Thomas W. Cook, 21, Sayre, was eastbound along Milan Road in Smithfield Township and lost control of his vehicle while negotiating a left-hand curve.

The vehicle began to yaw and proceeded to cross the westbound lane sideways. Upon exiting the roadway, the vehicle struck a tree on the northern side of Milan Road.

Cook succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Bradford County Coroner’s Office.

The Smithfield Fire Department and Tri-County Ambulance responded to the scene along with the state police.
