In 1986, he crossed the border to the northern tier of Pennsylvania to join Peoples State Bank, where he served as President and Chairman of the Board for 30 years, retiring in 2007. In Wyalusing, he served as school board president and was active on the boards of several local businesses, including Guthrie Hospital and the TW Group of Companies.

Outside of work and community service, Don enjoyed wildlife, farming and spending time with his family. A private pilot for more than 40 years, Don loved flying small planes all over the country. His family enjoyed spending time together in the Bahamas on a small barrier reef island called Elbow Cay.

Don was born in Rochester, NY on Feb. 3, 1941 to Florence (née Krauter) and George Abrey. He was the eldest of four siblings and was predeceased by his sister, Joan Marie. He is survived by a sister, Carol Lee of Eureka, CA, and a brother, Thomas Abrey of Rochester, NY.

He is also survived by his wife of 53 years, Joan (née Ranker) and three daughters, Lauren Abrey, MD of Basel, Switzerland, Caryn Abrey, PhD of Seattle, WA, and Kate Abrey of Arlington, VA; his sons-inlaw, Stephen Oliver and Ashley Gum; and three grandchildren, Abrey and Olivia Oliver and Finn Wittouck.
