Several weeks ago, I wrote that birds eat their food quickly due to their lack of teeth and chewing ability. Instead of having teeth to grind their food, birds have gizzards. The gizzard has remarkable power. Scientists compare its function to the grinding teeth and strong jaws of mammals. Some older farmers refer to the gizzard as “hen’s teeth”.
