Helen Rail Helen Rail Helen Mae Rail, 88, of West Avenue, Meshoppen, PA, passed away at the Community Medical Center in Scranton, PA, on Saturday afternoon, Aug. 4, 2018.

Born in Nicholson, PA, on Dec. 6, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and B. Bertha Biggar Sabuacak.

Growing up in and spending most of her childhood in the Nicholson area, she attended school in that area. After moving to Meshoppen, Helen kept a very busy life as a housewife and homemaker for her family. She also cleaned many homes in the Meshoppen and surrounding area and babysat for many families throughout the years, with many of those families considering her as part of their family.

Helen was a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish in Meshoppen and also its Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the CCD and enjoyed her many years as a Girl Scout Leader in Meshoppen. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, embroidery, canning, gardening and babysitting. Helen was also a great cook and loved spending time with her loving family.

Helen loved to be surrounded by her family. Survivors include her children, Linda L. Harvey and her husband, Richard of Tunkhannock; Ronald L. Stephens, Jr. and his wife, Sandy of Morgantown, WV; Jane Stephens of Clarks Summit and Sheri A. Rail of Tunkhannock; her grandchildren, Bridgette Isaac and her husband, John of Easton, PA, and Stephen Kman, Jr. and his wife, Debbie of Norwich, NY; three great-grandchildren, Stephen, Nicholas and Nicolina, as well as many nieces and nephews. Helen is also survived by her former husbands, Ronald L. Stephens, Sr. and Thomas J. Rail. Besides her parents, Helen was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Sabuacak and Nicholas Sabuacak; four sisters, Leona Gerega, Ann Cowperthwait, Margaret Jupina and Maria Sabuacak and her best friend, Cora Allyn.

Funeral services will be held at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Meshoppen, on Friday, Aug. 10 at 10 a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joachim’s Roman Catholic Church in Meshoppen at 11 a.m. with Father Joseph Manarchuck of the church officiating. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Tunkhannock.

Family and friends may call on Thursday night, Aug. 9 at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. with a Rosary to be recited at 7:45.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial contributions to St. Joachim’s Roman Catholic Church, 245 State Street, Wyalusing, PA 18853.
