Engines Roared to Life for WVES Rally for DC

By Kelly Cole

Those participating in Rally for DC at Wyalusing Valley Elementary School (WVES) on Sunday, Oct. 9, made an impressive start to their ride by revving their engines at exactly 2 p.m.  The roar the bike engines created made everyone stop and take notice. The weather was amazing and exactly what the 28 drivers and their passengers had hoped for.

After the two-hour ride, they returned to the school to enjoy a light supper and find out who won the raffle baskets and silent auction items. This was the third and final fundraiser that is held to raise money for the WVES sixth grade trip to Washington, DC. The goal of Rally for DC is to help offset the costs of the trip and make it more affordable to the students. Remaining funds help cover the cost of the following year’s trip.

Bike Rally proceeds are paired with golf tournament profits to help pay for hotel rooms, food and transportation. The students can help toward the portion they are each responsible for by earning fifty percent from what they sell as part of their Christmas fundraiser, in addition to sales of the raffle tickets for the bike rally. The sixth grade Washington, DC trip, which the students look forward to all year, not only rounds their curriculum, but serves also as the last big hoorah before the youths head over to the high school.
