Superintendent

Wyalusing Area School District

Report cards for high school students have been distributed for the second marking period. If you have not seen your child’s report card, please ask your child or contact the school guidance office. Winter break begins on Dec. 23 and ends on Jan. 1. We will dismiss at the normal times on Dec. 22.

Thanks for everyone’s cooperation with obeying the School Zone speed limit of 15 mph during the morning and afternoon peak traffic times. This is a very dangerous time for everyone, due to the high volume of traffic. We’ve received reports recently of vehicles not stopping for buses when their red lights are blinking, especially on Rt. 6 and Rt. 220. The State Police Headquarters in Towanda has been notified and they are increasing their presence during these critical times. If you are a witness to a vehicle not stopping for a stopped bus and can get the license plate number and a description, please relay the information to our transportation secretary, Mrs. Stoddard, at the district office.

For your planning purposes, the early dismissal times on Jan. 23 and 24, will be 12:15 p.m. for Wyalusing Valley Elementary School and 12:30 p.m. for Wyalusing Valley High School. The change in time is necessary to accommodate the high school midterm exam schedule.

If you have not yet updated your child’s school records with your new 911 address or have a new telephone number, please do so to ensure that you receive communication from the school district. Contact your child’s guidance counselor with this information.

Lots of great things are happening on the Max Gannon campus. The Leo Club helped over 160 children with Christmas gifts, students are performing in music programs in both schools this week and next, the wrestling team was 5-0 last Saturday in the Ram Duals, the basketball teams are off to a great start, and all students are receiving rigorous academic instruction daily. See the district webpage for a listing of upcoming events.

Education Fact: The average student learns about 3,000 words per year in the early school years (eight words per day). Source: Baumann & Kameenui.
