New Engineering Firm Based on Spring Hill
By David Keeler
It’s a sign of the times.
Spring Hill resident Herbert Gery says it’s his expectation of increased development in the northern tier counties that prompted him to open a civil engineering firm, which he will run from his Spring Hill home.
It’s a double-edged sword for Gery. “We came here before the gas boom to enjoy the country,” he says. He and his wife Sharon moved here about five years ago from Chalfont, Bucks County, and purchased a house just off the Turkey Path. Then everything changed. Herb still hasn’t leased his property to a gas company, and just behind his home a huge compressor station is under construction.
But Herb says he expects to see new housing and new business construction increase and that opens the door for him as a civil engineer. A Temple University graduate, Herb has 27 years of experience that includes site work, preparing for building construction and developing water and sewer service. He also is experienced in obtaining PennDOT and DEP permits. He can provide engineering services to individuals as well as companies and municipalities. “I can look at drawings of proposed developments and help municipalities determine if the development is in line with its ordinances,” Herb says.
Along with his years of experience, Herb says one of the things that makes doing business with Gery Engineering, LLC attractive to potential customers is his location. “I’m here in Bradford County,” he says, adding that he’s seen examples of projects where the engineering was done by a company that never set foot on the site.
