Some Election Results Corrected, Others Unresolved
Most of the results of the Nov. 8 voting in Bradford County have been declared official, but write-in votes for municipal contests for which there were no candidates on the ballot have still not been decided, according to Bradford County director of elections Renee Smithkors.
In the race for the three county commissioners seats, Doug McLinko and new candidate Daryl Miller garnered the most votes at 6,562 and 5,416 each, respectively. Miller’s vote count was listed incorrectly in last week’s Rocket-Courier, but the numbers do not change the outcome of the race. Incumbent Democrat Mark Smith retained his seat with 4,848 votes, and Democratic contender Gene Osmun lost his bid for the commissioner’s post with 4,093 votes of the 20,426 cast.
Smithkors related that there are still no winners listed in some municipalities, such as Pike Township, where seven write-in candidates received one vote each. In that case, she noted, the election board must verify that the candidates each reside in the township, after which they will be notified by letter of when there will be a “casting of the lots.”
At this point, it does not appear that write-in votes played much of a factor in or altered any of the posted results in Susquehanna or Wyoming counties.
