Stylist Opens New Salon in Homets Ferry
By Rick Hiduk
Christina Howard Nolan initially dabbled in hair and nails as a hobby. She and her college roommate would have their own “movie night” and experiment with each other’s hair. When she started narrowing down the focus of her post Wyalusing Valley High School education, it made perfect sense to turn her hobby into a profession.
Nolan, a 2000 WVHS graduate, attended and graduated from Empire Beauty School in 2005 and has taken numerous courses at the Goldwell Academy of Color in Baltimore to hone her craft. On Nov. 29, she was surrounded by family and friends for a ribbon-cutting ceremony in advance of the grand opening of Christina’s Simply Colors at 2044 Homets Ferry Road in Wyalusing Township, which is slated for today, Dec. 1.
“My goal has always been to have my own salon,” Nolan related. “Today, it’s almost unbelievable to me that it’s actually happening.”
Nolan had previously worked at Genesis Salon in Wyalusing, but she needed a way to continue her career while also giving ample attention to her three young children, hence the conversion of some of the living space in the home that she shares with the kids and husband, Tony, in Homets Ferry. Although she intends to schedule clients from Monday through Saturday, she doesn’t want to post hours yet because the needs of her children come first. “I can work my schedule around them,” she stated.
Tony, she noted, sacrificed both sleep and archery season to get her well-appointed shop ready in time for the grand opening. But the support did not stop at her husband.
“We have had so many hands involved in this project,” Nolan remarked. In addition to her parents, Rich and Debbie Howard, Nolan extended her gratitude to Corey Houser and Dee Huber, the latter of whom juggled the reopening of her own Wyalusing Family Chiropractic Center that was flooded in September with her commitment to Nolan’s new shop.
Christina’s Simply Colors offers cuts and styling for men, women, and children, as well as color services, waxing, deep conditioning, and braiding.
“I have such a passion for my clients and making them happy when they leave my salon,” Nolan stated. “I not only do hair, I make my clients feel beautiful.”
