Wyalusing Creek Bridge Near Stevensville Opens

A new bridge to carry Waterman Road over Wyalusing Creek in Stevens Township opened to traffic—about a week ahead of schedule.

A detour, which has been in place since March has been lifted.

The new bridge is a two-span concrete structure that is two lanes wide and capable of carrying all legal-sized loads (up to 80,000 pounds). It replaced a century-old single-lane structure that had a weight restriction.

Motorists are advised that though the new bridge opened to traffic last week, there was some work remaining at the construction site. A sub-contractor was paving the roadway approaches.

The bridge is located on Waterman Road (T-875), approximately a half-mile south of the intersection with Rt. 706 and about a mile west of the Village of Rushville.

Susquehanna Valley Construction Corp., New Cumberland, is the primary contractor on this $981,000 project.
