Wyalusing School District Superintendent's Homestretch Building Report

By Ray Fleming

The Pennsylvania Depart-ment of Labor and Industry issued its Certificate of Occupancy for the new Wyalusing Area Elementary School on Friday, July 15, after the code inspector completed his evaluation of the building. While another inspection will be made before school actually opens, this certificate allows us to move into the building and begin setting up for the start of the upcoming school year.

All safety issues have been met and we are looking forward to getting the furniture into the building, deep cleaning the building after the construction process, and learning how to use all the new bells and whistles.

The school district will be notifying the communities of the open house and other activities related to the opening of the new building. New bus routes have been established as well and notification will come regarding those changes in the coming weeks.

So the new era of a consolidated school district is upon us and we are excited to get underway. While the building project has taken a great deal of time and effort within the school community it is also a pleasure to report that the district schools all met the state’s AYP criteria and the Wyalusing Elementary school, which was in School Improvement status is now back to having all subgroups meeting the AYP standards. So this has indeed been a very good couple of weeks for the Wyalusing Area School District.

At the last board meeting the district hired Nutrition Group to take over management of the cafeterias at both buildings. This company already manages cafeteria programs in three other local school districts and we feel this would be a good time to utilize a management company to save our district money and provide a more varied food program for the students. More information will be available soon regarding this change for the district.
