Ryan Johnston, 25, Athens, faces charges for theft by unlawful taking for allegedly stealing a black leather purse containing about $40 in cash, credit cards, and other assorted items from a woman known to him while she went to get him a beer. The incident was dated July 3 at 2:55 a.m. The victim’s aunt, with whom she was staying on Thomas Avenue in Sayre, reported seeing Johnston run down the street with the purse. He faces an Aug. 5 preliminary hearing.
Benjamin Lee Jerkes, 21, Endicott, NY, faces charges for unauthorized use of an automobile after he reportedly drove off from Wilawana Road in Athens Township on June 30 in a truck that he had been told that he could not borrow. Police alleged that Jerkes obtained the keys and took the vehicle sometime between midnight and 8 a.m. The truck was located at about 10 p.m. on July 2 on Ithaca Street in Waverly and retrieved by the owner. A preliminary hearing has been set for Aug. 9.
Travis Lee Lattimer, 34, Sayre, faces multiple charges, including criminal trespass, burglary, simple assault, and harassment from events dated May 22 at about 2:45 p.m. Lattimer reportedly entered the residence of a former girlfriend, which he was not permitted to be at, choked and hit the victim multiple times and removed about $60 from her purse before scattering the remaining contents on the floor. The manager of the apartment house in which the victim resides advised Lattimer via a letter mailed on Feb. 3, that he was not permitted on the premises. According to the police report, Lattimer’s father unsuccessfully attempted to get the victim to drop the charges against his son and offered to pay back the $60 that Lattimer allegedly took from the purse. He now faces a July 19 preliminary hearing.
