First Class Petty Officer John Howell, 32, son of Mr. and Mrs. Willis Howell, RD1, New Albany, was injured as a plane attempted to land on the flight deck of the USS Nimitz. It veered to the side of the deck and crashed, killing 14 men and injuring 48 others.
Shelly Clapper has been chosen by her senior class to represent Wyalusing Valley High School at the PA State Laurel Festival to be held in Wellsboro.
Jonathon Schulze, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Schulze, Wyalusing, was among the students at Kenyon College in Gambria, OH to receive a degree at graduation ceremonies.
Joe Moore was selected Athlete of the Year by members of the coaching staff, the Lettermen’s Club and the Rocket-Courier, sponsors of the award.
Telephone service for the 746 exchange in Wyalusing was disrupted for a time due to a house fire in South Towanda.
Clean-up operations at Welles Mill continue, which still smolders one week after the fire.
