Early Firemen’s ParadeHere’s a view of an early firemen’s parade proceeding along Main Street in a photo that was snapped sometime in the late 1800’s. As is the case today, a good size crowd turned out to view the parade, and on the left a rope can be seen that has been stretched along the street to keep spectators on the sidewalk. Members of Wyalusing’s Fire Company Number One are decked out in their dress with waist-length jackets, visor caps and white trousers. Two mounted members of the company are leading the group along Main Street. On the right of the photo, wearing dark uniforms, is Wyalusing Uno Band, awaiting a cue from its director to strike up a tune. At the rear of the procession is Wyalusing’s hook and ladder wagon, which is still in existence today. It must have been a hot afternoon when this parade passed along Main Street, as numerous people on the porches of the Wyalusing Hotel and other buildings are using parasols to shield themselves from the sun. The original copy of this photo is owned by Betsy Smith Reynolds of Rush.News items of timely interest gathered from the old files of The WYALUSING ROCKET and reprinted as they were in the Aug. 13, 1981 issue.
