Can Kindergarten Be Saved?
I am a constituent of yours. I have just read about a really disturbing report showing that most Pennsylvania school districts are planning to reduce or eliminate programs that really help kids learn—small class sizes, tutoring, summer school and elective courses that motivate young people to achieve.
A third of school districts plan to eliminate full-day kindergarten, which has been proven to boost student achievement. Two-thirds of our schools will lay off instructional staff. How can we expect our children to be successful under these conditions?
During budget deliberations this spring, please vote to use the budget surplus to restore education funding to 2010-11 levels. This is very important to me, and I am counting on you. Thank you.
