Della (Hulbirt) Stout, 84,
Della (Hulbirt) Stout, 84, made her transition peacefully Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011 with family at her side.
She is predeceased by her parents, Boyd and Margaret and brothers, Jack, Leroy and Celian “Jiggs.”
She is survived by her daughter, Jean Warren (Jerry) of Fairport, NY; sons, Neil Stout (wife Annette) of Hathaway Pines, CA and Chris Caley of Murphys, CA; grandchildren, Carole Utter (Sue Bradshaw) and Michael Utter of Rochester, NY, Mark Utter of Ithaca, NY; cousins, John (Marie) Decker of Mehoopany and Arden (Norma) Campbell of Laceyville; several nieces, nephews and friends throughout the country.
Born in Wyalusing, Sept. 21, 1926, Della was raised in Sayre, graduating from Sayre High School, Class of 1944. She worked for a knitting mill and then Bendix Aviation in Elmira, NY before moving to the Rochester area with her first husband, Frank H. Utter, Sr. in 1948. In 1963, she moved with her children and second husband, Harry J. Stout to the Chicago, IL suburbs, then to Danville, CA in 1967. In 1983, she moved to Murphys, CA, establishing Stir Crazy’s Frozen Yogurt, which she ran until 1992 when she returned to the Rochester area. She was honored for her years of volunteer service at the Gleaner’s Kitchen in Canandaigua, NY and for her volunteer efforts at the Ontario County Health Facility where she lived the last year of her life, receiving very good and loving care and making many friends.
She was a proud member of the Eastern Delaware Nations. A ceremony will be held at Prayer Rock in Wyalusing on Sunday, Sept. 18 in the afternoon after the council meeting. Copies of pictures for her memory board to be displayed on Sept 17 and 18 can be sent to Mollie Elliot, Secretary, 35 Morgan Circle, Troy, PA 16947.
