Donald F. Middendorf, 73 of Moxie, PA, passed away on Tuesday evening, May 10, 2011 at Towanda Memorial Hospital with his loving family at his side.
Born on April 2, 1938 in Cherry Twp, PA, he was a son of the late Clement J. and Alma Hembury Middendorf. He graduated from the St. Basil’s High School, a member of the class of 1956. After school he worked at various jobs. He entered the U.S. Army and after his discharge, he began working for PennDOT, from which he retired in 2000 after 28 years of service. He married Gladys Dexter Brown on Dec. 9, 1978.
Don was a member of PARSE as well as the Dushore American Legion, Loyalsock Post #996. He was an avid hunter as well as a birdwatcher. In his youth he enjoyed dancing and frequented many of the local dance halls. He loved spending time with family and friends as well as his dog Rosie.
He was a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Dushore.
Survivors include his spouse, Gladys, at home; sons, Kevin L. Middendorf, Towanda, Russell L. (Barbara) Middendorf, Towanda; stepsons, Charles W. Brown, Jr., Monroeton, Frank R (Kim) Brown, Monroeton; step-daughters, Morine B (Michael) Wintermute, Gillette, Judy B (Nicholas) Elchak, Powell, Carol Sue B. (Fred) Ackley, French Asylum; a sister, Helen Saxe McGee, New Albany; sister-in-law, Jacqueline Quinn Middendorf, Orondo, WA; brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry (Terri) Middendorf, Troy, MS Joe (Jean) Middendorf, Castroville, TX; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by three brothers, Clement, Jr., Robert and Richard Middendorf; two sisters, Betty Jane Middendorf and Lois McCarty, and also by two brothers-in-laws, Richard Saxe and James McGee.
A Transfer Service will be held on Saturday, May 14, at 9:30 a.m. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 206 Water St., Dushore, and will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Basil's Church, Dushore, with the Rev. Joseph R. Hornick, his pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Basil’s Cemetery.
Friends may call on Friday, May 13, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home.
Graveside Military Services will be conducted by members of Loyalsock Post #996 American Legion, Dushore. Members will pass in review on Friday evening at 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
