Elmer F. Smith, 83,
Elmer served in the Army Air Corps during WWII.
He retired from PENNDOT. Prior to this, Elmer operated a saw mill for a number of years and worked for Brunges Lumber Co., Inc. He was a member of American Legion-Gardner-Warner Post and Ayres-Stone VFW Post #5642, both in Montrose. Elmer was an avid Dodgers fan, hunter and gardener.
Besides his wife, survivors include, daughter and son-in-law, Nina and George Rockwell, Sr., Springville; son and daughter-in-law, James C. and Rose Smith, Montrose; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Kenneth Rauch, Montrose; son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Patricia Smith, Montrose; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and John Swavola, Montrose; 13 grandchildren, George, Jr., Kim, Christine, Nicole, Lucas, Kenneth, Holly, Adam, Derek, Emily, Jay, John E. and Justina; nine great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Esther and William McLaughlin, Montrose; brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter and Retha Smith, Great Bend, George and Dorothy Smith, Montrose, Glenn and Jeanette Smith, Montrose, Carl and Betty Smith, Montrose, Harold and Carol Smith, New Milford; a sister-in-law, Juanita Smith, Montrose, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his sister, Evelyn Shimer; brother, Nelson Smith and brother-in-law, Homer Shimer.
Services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 14 at the Bartron-Myer Funeral Home, Inc., a Selected Independent Funeral Home, 74 Church Street, Montrose. The family received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
