Ernestine Edsell Benjamin, 92
Born Dec. 19, 1911 in Pike Township, Bradford County, she was the daughter of Jesse and Edith Groover Edsell. She attended school in LeRaysville and in early years was employed by the David Wilmot hotel and the Berlinger Silk Mill, both in Towanda and the Greyhound Bus Terminal in Wysox. On Nov. 25, 1957 she married C. Edward Benjamin. She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 19, 1995.
Ernestine was a member of the Monroeton United Methodist Church and the Monroe Hose Company Auxiliary. She enjoyed cooking and baking and was well-known for her apple pies.
Surviving are two stepsons, Philip A. Benjamin of North Towanda and Donald Benjamin, Sr. and his wife, Kathryn Thompson Benjamin of Catasauqua; four grandchildren, Donald E. Benjamin, Jr., Alan D. Benjamin, Elizabeth Forman, Scott Benjamin; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; a special niece, Anna Bowen of Rome; a special friend, Shirley Woodruff. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Gilbert, Walter and George and three sisters, Musette, Genevieve and Loramae.
The funeral services were held on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda with the Rev. Ronald Troup, pastor of the Monroeton United Methodist Church officiating. Interment was in the Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills. Pallbearers were Donald Benjamin, Jr., Alan Benjamin, Scott Benjamin, Dan Furman, Walter Edsell, Jr. and Donald Roof.
The family received friends on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home prior to the services.
