Gerald “Jerry” M. Carr, 86,
Gerald “Jerry” M. Carr, 86, of LeRaysville, PA passed away Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Towanda Memorial Hospital, Towanda. Born Feb. 8, 1925 in LeRaysville, he was the son of the late John M. and Caroline [Sibley] Carr.
He owned and operated G.M. Carr & Son for 23 years before his retirement. He attended the Dille Parish UCC, LeRaysville, PA.
Jerry was a lifetime member of the LeRaysville Fire Company where he served as president for 10 years. He was a past director at Haigh’s Pond and also one of the original cast members in the LeRaysville Minstrel. In his early years, he loved to play baseball and softball. Jerry and his wife, Betty Jane, enjoyed spending summers at their home in Sandy Pond, NY and winters at their home in Frostproof, FL until his health no longer allowed him to travel.
Survivors include his loving wife of almost 67 years, Betty Jane Carr of LeRaysville; daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and John Clark of LeRaysville; sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Pat Carr of Stevensville, Dennis and Linda Carr of Rome, Chris and Penny Carr of Wyalusing; grandchildren and their spouses, Casey and Kristy McPherson, Cody Clark, Jeffrey and Sarah Carr, Lisa and Jamie Tinna, Derek and Michelle Carr, Tim and Amy Carr, Greg and Amy Carr, Chris and Heidi Carr, Cameron Carr and Taylor; 16 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Elwood and Janet Carr of Potterville, Vernon and Pat Carr of Rome, Romeyn and Alice Carr of Lawton; sisters, Donna Benjamin of Elmira, NY, Eulalie Hurley of Rome, numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Ellis Coolbaugh; brothers-in-law, Gordon Benjamin and Bob Hurley; sister-in-law, Betty Carr; son-in-law, Kelly McPherson and a granddaughter, Tammy Carr.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the Dille Parish UCC, LeRaysville. Friends and family called from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday at the church.
