Hugh Leroy Parkhurst, Sr., 78
Hugh Leroy Parkhurst, Sr., 78, of Tunkhannock, PA went home to be with the Lord early Friday morning, Sept. 30, 2011, at Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock. Born in Silvara on July 31, 1933, he was the son of the late Walter and Edna Brown Parkhurst. Hugh was the husband of Agnes Ann Owen Parkhurst, whom he married on Feb. 20, 1955, and who passed away on May 7, 1989. Hugh was the son-in-law of the late Vincent and Jenny Owen.
He served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War, from September 1953 until August 1956 as a SP3 medic. For many years, he was employed at Morris Chain in Montrose as a tool and die maker. Known as a “fix-it man” to many, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, bowling and family gatherings. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle to many.
Surviving are his five sons Hugh Leroy, Jr. (Michelle) Parkhurst of Waymart, Walter (Jill) Parkhurst of Troy, Herbert Parkhurst of Tunkhannock, Sandy Parkhurst of Tunkhannock and James Parkhurst of Wyalusing; three daughters, Audrey (Frank) Lincoln of Tunkhannock, Sheryl (Fred) Askew of Mehoopany and Betsy (Roger) Jayne of Laceyville, as well as 28 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Walter and Celista Parkhurst of Rome and many nieces and nephews. Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death and now rejoins his dear son, Shawn Christopher Parkhurst, who passed away on Nov. 25, 2007.
Graveside services will be at a later date at the convenience of the family in the Lacey St. Cemetery in Laceyville.
