Joanne W. Bortner 74,
Joanne W. Bortner 74, of Sugar Run, PA passed away on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2011 at her home following a lengthy illness. Born on March 28, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Webster Leroy and Helen Ruth Graham Shantz of Eagle PA, Chester County.
She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Spring City, PA. In her early years she worked at the Roberts Meat Packing Plant Co. She grew up working on her parent’s family farm and enjoyed all the animals and gardening. On Nov. 22, 1975, she married William Bortner in Phoenixville. After Bill’s retirement, they moved to Sugar Run to enjoy the rural country living.
Survivors include her four children and their spouses, John F. and Helen Trivelpiece, Kaye and Ron Mussalman, Betty and Michael Pyle, Mark and Virginia Trivelpiece; two step-children, Diane and Douglas Williams and Debra Degler; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three brothers and sister, Mary Marks, Darlene and Dudley Bowen and Kaye and James Hetrick. She was preceded in death by two daughters, Helen Peel and Kelly Swartz; two step-sons, James and William Bortner, Jr. and a sister Elizabeth Gresko.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. in the McHenry Funeral Home, 106 Church St., Wyalusing with the Rev. Barry Ballard officiating.
