Lela M. Hite, 92

Lela M. Hite, 92, of New Albany, PA, beloved mother and grandmother, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, May 19, 2011 at the Towanda Memorial Hospital following a brief Illness. She was born April 7, 1919 to the late Lewis and Sarah Dickerman Kipp. Lela graduated from New Albany High School in 1937. On July 2, 1938, she married the love of her life, the late Robert F. Hite. They enjoyed over 35 years together raising six children.

A very loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she loved spending time with her family. She was a faithful member of the New Era Methodist Church. Lela loved her flowers, bingo and camping with her family. She also loved to crochet, making many lap robes for nursing homes. Lela was especially devoted to her son, Donald to whom for over 40 years she gave her loving care.

Survivors include her children, daughters and sons-in-law, Ida and Clifford Bennett of Athens, Marilyn and Clifford Torguson of Latah, WA and Marian and Earl Swackhamer of New Albany, PA and Addison, NY; sons and daughter-in law, Robert and Barbara Hite of Hornbrook and Donald Hite of the Bath VA Hospital Nursing Home, Bath, NY; grandchildren, Sharon and Ricky Chamberlain of Sayre, Robert, Jr. and Shirley Hite of Sayre, Brion and Paula Bennett of Troy, Gary and Dawn Hite of Athens, Laura and Bill Herald of Bloomsburg, Kelly and Tina Hite of Nichols, NY, Jeremy and Tina Hite of Coudersport, Debra and Jamie Hall of New Albany, Tina Jones of Spokane, WA, Amy Torguson of Tacoma, WA, Donald Torguson of Latah, WA and Earl, Jr. and Chelsea Swackhamer of Addison, NY. Lela is also survived by 19 great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert in 1973; daughter, Roberta Estes in 1997; son-in-law, Eugene Estes in 1995; her parents; her brothers, Archie Kipp, Emerson Kipp, Arthur Kipp and John Kipp and her sisters, Gladys Porter and Zilphia Carnwright and a very special sister-in-law, Marie Kipp.

A viewing was held on Sunday, May 22 from 1 until 3 p.m. in the Russell P. McHenry Funeral Home, 119 Carpenter St., Dushore.

A funeral service was held on Sunday at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Sandy Brandt. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family in the Bradford County Memorial Park, Towanda.
