Mary Howland Hutchings
Mary Howland Hutchings died on Monday, March 21, 2011 after a long illness in Huntersville, NC. She was born on June 7, 1923, the daughter of Harry and Laura D. Howland of Neath, PA. She graduated from LeRaysville High School in June, 1941 and attended Lowell's Business School in Binghamton, NY.
Mrs. Hutchings worked as a bookkeeper and teller with the First National Bank in LeRaysville, as well as the First National Bank of Bradford County in Towanda. She retired in 1986.
Mary married Raymond C. Hutchings of Hughstown, Pittston, and was very happily married for 42 years until his death in 1989. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Towanda, where she served as an Elder and a Deacon. She was active in Sunday School and taught there for over 25 years. She was also a member of the Bell Choir and served as assistant teacher for Play Day for several years.
She was a member of the Towanda Area Senior Citizens Club, 20th Century Club and volunteered for a variety of organizations including Meals-on-Wheels, TACO and Bradford County Manor.
Her main interests were home, family and church. She had many hobbies including crocheting, needlepoint, garden-ing, flowers, reading and serving her community.
Survivors include her sons, Robert C. Hutchings of Milan, and David H. and Linda Hutchings of Huntersville, NC; grandsons, Brian Hutchings of Michigan, Chris Hutchings of Sayre, Scott Hutchings of Wyalusing, Garrett and Connor Hutchings of Huntersville, NC; one granddaughter, Morgan L. Hutchings of Huntersville, NC; six great-granddaughters; a brother and sister-in-law, George and Grace Howland and sister-in-law, Musette Howland. She has many nieces and nephews that were loved as well. Mrs. Hutchings was predeceased by her husband, Raymond; her son, George; sister, Eva Louise Allyn; brother, Kenneth Howland, and brother-in-law, Clifford Allyn.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Towanda, PA in her name.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Marryott-Bowen Funeral Home in Towanda.
Viewing times are from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 25, and the funeral service is on Saturday, March 26 at 11 a.m.
