Mr. Robert I. (Bob) Clayton, Sr., 78,
Mr. Robert I. (Bob) Clayton, Sr., 78, of 25 Trible Rd., Meshoppen, PA, passed away at his home in South Auburn, Auburn Twp., Susquehanna Co., on Saturday morning, Aug. 27, 2011 after a long illness.
Bob was born in Toms River, NJ, on May 23,1933, the son of the late Herbert and Lida Brower Clayton. Early in his life, he was a resident of Toms River, graduating from the Toms River North High School. He later married his wife, the former Gladys A. Weisenbach, and started their family in Toms River. Owning property in South Auburn since 1959, Bob and Gladys moved their family to their current home in South Auburn from Toms River in 1965.
From 1951 until 1954, Bob served his country with the U.S. Coast Guard, stationed stateside.
After moving to South Auburn, Bob was a well-known carpenter, owning and operating Clayton Furniture Shop near his home, since 1965. In his spare time, he enjoyed ship modeling and working in his vegetable garden. On Wednesday mornings, he enjoyed the breakfast club that he was a member of along with several of his friends of the South Auburn area.
Preceding Bob in death, besides his parents, were his wife, Gladys A. Weisenbach Clayton on April 6, 1996, and a brother, William Clayton.
He is survived by his children, Amy Strohl and Myron Hunsinger of Meshoppen, Cindy Clayton and Wade Leach of South Auburn and Robert, Jr. and Debra Clayton of South Auburn; his six grandchildren, Jamie Strohl, Amanda Hollister, Lindsay Brecht, Robert Clayton, III, Kameal Clayton and Bryent Clayton and a great-granddaughter, Mackenzie Strohl. Bob is also survived by a good friend, James Strohl of South Auburn and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family. Interment will be private.
