Norma Jean Vaow, 74,
Norma Jean Vaow, 74, widow of Delbert R. Vaow, Sr., of South Branch, Monroe Twp., PA, passed away Saturday, March 26, 2011 at the Skilled Nursing Unit of Memorial Hospital in N. Towanda Twp. Born on Feb. 19, 1937 in Sayre, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Anna Croft Vanderpool. On Aug. 24, 1955, she married Delbert R. Vaow, who preceded her in death on Sept. 24, 1994.
She was formerly employed by the Towanda Folding Box Company, the J.J. Newberry Store in Towanda and the former Superstore on Main Street in Towanda.
Norma was a member of the Monroeton United Methodist Church and was an active supporter of the Country Connection Line Dancers.
Survivors include her children, Delbert "Rick," Jr. (Jolene) Vaow of Clearfield, Terry Vaow of Towanda, Robert Vaow of Newville, Peggy Parsons (Brad Beckwith) of Towanda; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Peg Vaow of Laporte, sisters-in-law, Donna Robinson and Dixie Dickerson; brother-in-law, Dale Vaow; nephew, Randy (Jackie) Vanderpool and her neighbor, Pauline Strawser.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Clayton Vanderpool; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Delta and John Lamphere, brother-in-law, Leon Robinson and father-in-law, Fred Vaow.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 2 at 2 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda. Interment will be in the Wyalusing Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorial contributions may be directed to a charity or organization of one's choice in Norma's memory.
