Norma Newton Bennett, 81,
Norma Newton Bennett, 81, wife of C. Albert Bennett of Montrose, PA passed away Thursday evening, Oct. 13, 2011 at the Meadowview Nursing Home in Montrose. Born in New Albany on April 28, 1930, she was the daughter of Niles A. Newton and Leona Mayo Newton. She was a graduate of Wyalusing High School, Class of 1948.
On Dec. 21, 1948, she married C. Albert Bennett at the Evergreen Christian Church. In early years, she was employed by Century Mills Garment Manufacturing and by the McMillan Book Company in New Jersey. She was a former member of the Church of the Open Bible in Riverside, NJ where she taught Sunday school and served as youth director and was presently a member of the Springville Baptist Church.
Norma enjoyed interior decorating, floral arranging, reading biographies, shopping and gardening.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, C. Albert Bennett; four children, Yvonne Alberti and husband, Fred of Langhorne, Charles “Chuck” Bennett, Jr. and wife, Diane of Middleburg, FL, Kathryn Blowers and husband, Bruce of Tunkhannock, Karen Grossman and husband, Geoffrey of Westampton, NJ; 10 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; brother, David Newton and wife, Lois of Wysox; sisters, Caroline Butts and husband, Milton of Little Mountain, SC, Lois Lowrey and husband, Melvin of Jacksonville, FL, Joanne Reynolds and husband, DeWitt of Montrose; brother-in-law, Kenneth Fox of Wyalusing; sister-in-law, Judy Newton of Towanda; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a grandson, Brian Blowers; sister, Grace Fox and brother, Niles Newton.
The funeral service was held Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 11 a.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with Dr. Roger Rosenau, pastor of the Springville Baptist Church, and her nephew, Pastor Dennis Fox, officiating. Interment was in Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills. The family received friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
