Olive Marie Clark Capwell Holcomb, 92,
Olive Marie Clark Capwell Holcomb, 92, passed away in the Memorial Hospital on Thursday July 14, 2011. Born on Nov. 19, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Jacob Laverne and Mary (Mamie) Rosalie Gleockler Clark in Kaywood, NY. She was raised by her grandparents, Anthony and Anna Hugo Gleockler, in Elkland Twp. at Hugo’s Corners. She attended the Bethel grade school and then a year of high school in Estella.
She moved to the Wyalusing area where she married Raymond Capwell on Nov. 1, 1935. Raymond passed away on March 16, 1962. She later married Lyle Holcomb on Aug. 23, 1963. Lyle passed away on Dec. 6, 1986.
Olive was a caregiver for several people during her lifetime; she began at the age of 15. She did sewing at several area sewing factories, a wreath factory, cleaning homes and sewing and mending. She made many wedding and bridesmaids’ gowns. She moved from New Albany to Wyalusing’s Park Place so she could enjoy the companionship of the residents, and enjoyed playing cards in the evening and the many other activities.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Durell V.F.W. and a lifetime member of the Monroeton Rod and Gun Club.
Survivors include her two daughters, Anne and husband Dewitt Cory of Laceyville and Angela and husband, Foster Benninger of North Towanda; three sons, Raymond and wife Karen Capwell of Ann Arbor, MI, William Capwell of Orwell and John and wife Debbie Capwell of Durell; 39 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husbands, Olive is preceded in death by three brothers, William, Walter and Bruce Clark; a daughter, Shirley Carpenter; a son, Charles Capwell and a son-in-law, Duane Carpenter.
A memorial and committal service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.
