Rita Ann Gainer Stoddard, 76
Rita Ann Gainer Stoddard, 76 of Sugar Run, PA passed away Monday morning, Sept. 12, 2011 at the Towanda Memorial Hospital, with her loving family at her side.
Born on June 19, 1935, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Mary O’Neill Gainer. She graduated from St. Basil’s High School, in the class of 1953. After school Rita worked at the Mildred post office, and then later worked in a cafeteria. She met and married William R. Stoddard of Sugar Run on Feb. 27, 1963. They resided on the family farm in Sugar Run, where she devoted her life to raising her seven children and helping around the farm. Rita really enjoyed working in her garden and canning.
She loved spending time with her family, especially going on family camping trips and other functions. Her family was her life and she will be dearly missed by all.
Rita was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Wyalusing.
Surviving are her spouse, Bill, at home; son and daughter-in-law, Stanley and Michelle Stoddard, Kane; daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Russell Prevost, Meshoppen, Susan and Brett DiMassimo, Williamsport, Joanne and Ken Wettlauffer, South Williamsport, Joyce and Joseph, Wyalusing; grandchildren, Logan, Connor, Prescott, Johnathan, Jessica, Nicole, Angelia, Rebekah, Kahla, Brittani, Kenny, Megan, Jacob, Emily, Hailey, Cassie and Madelyn; great-grandchildren, Bella, Xavier, Ryleigh, Layla, Trey, with two more expected soon. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sons, Ronald Stoddard on Nov. 19, 1991 and Randy Stoddard on June 30, 2011.
A Transferal Service will be held on Thursday, Sept. 15 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Wyalusing, with the Rev. Joseph J. Manarchuck, her pastor, presiding. Interment will be in St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Stowell.
Friends may call on Wednesday, Sept. 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the P. Dean Homer Funeral Home, 1 Grovedale Lane, Wyalusing.
