Sandra (Sandi) Lee Pruitt Lewis

Sandra (Sandi) Lee Pruitt Lewis of Wyalusing, PA, passed away on Monday, March 21, 2011.

She was born April 9, 1948 in Wilmington, DE to Leroy (Pete) and Barbara Pruitt. She married Earl Lewis, Jr. on March 22, 1968 and moved to the Wyalusing area in 1972.

Sandi began her college career at the age of 41, earning her Bachelor of Arts from Marywood University (1995) summa cum laude and then earning her Master of Arts in History from the University of Scranton (1997). Sandi became an adjunct professor of American History and Geography at Marywood University, teaching classes through the fall semester 2010. Passionate about education and a devoted student of women's history, she received the Phi Alpha Beta historical scholarship and was a member of the Pi Gamma Mu, Kappa Gamma Pi and Delta Epsilon Sigma honor societies.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed debating current events and politics with colleagues, friends and family. She was a charter member of the Wyalusing Lioness Club and enjoyed traveling, especially for annual fall foliage trips around the Northeast with good friends.

Sandi is survived by her husband, Earl of Wyalusing; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Anne Lewis of Charlotte, NC, Steven and Jennifer Lewis of Wyalusing and grandchildren, Emily and Ethan Lewis. She is also survived by her mother, Barbara Pruitt of Millsboro, DE; sister, Deborah Pruitt Jones of Millsboro, DE; sister and brother-in-law, Stephanie and Richard Aydelott of Milton, DE; six nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.

There will be a celebration of Sandi's life at the Wyalusing United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, with Rev. Penney Rahm officiating. There will be a luncheon served following the service. The family will accept callers beginning at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Wyalusing Public Library, PO Box 98, Wyalusing, PA 18853.

Arrangements are through the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville.
