Shirley Carpenter Lent, 82,
Shirley Carpenter Lent, 82, of Towanda PA went home to be with the Lord on Monday morning, April 18, 2011 from the Skilled Nursing Unit of Memorial Hospital, N. Towanda, PA. Born Nov. 9, 1928 in New Albany, she was the daughter of the late Floyd A. and Hazel Bennett Carpenter. She was a 1947 graduate of Wyalusing High School and in early years was employed by the Indian Trail Restaurant and the Tomahawk Restaurant in N. Towanda.
She was later employed by GTE Sylvania in Towanda for 23 years until her retirement in 1987. A past president of the Sylvania Women’s Club, she was also a past President of the Bradford-Sullivan Chapter of A.A.R. P. and was a member of the Towanda Ulster Bowling Association. She enjoyed traveling and organizing trips for the Endless Travelers of Northeast Pennsylvania. Shirley was a loving mother and grandmother and leaves many cherished memories for her family.
Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Monte Hughey of Towanda, Cindy and George Suda of Fullerton, CA; son, Thomas Lent of Rhode Island; seven grandchildren, Sean Ennis, Kristy (Matt) Clark, Adam and Andrew Lent, Casey, Jonathan and Allyson Suda; great-grandson, Baylee Clark; sisters, Lela Shinn of Maryland, Betty McNeal of Silverdale, WA; sister-in-law, Phyllis Carpenter of Binghamton, NY; faithful friend, Joanie Fiester of Towanda and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Charles, Robert, Albert, Theodore and Francis Carpenter and sister, Rose Carpenter.
A memorial service will be held Friday, April 22 at 2 p.m. at the Maryott-Bowen Funeral Home, 217 York Ave., Towanda, with the Rev. Robert Martin officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home.
