Cleaner and Greener Clean-up Set for Saturday
The Fourth Annual Cleaner and Greener Clean-up is set to begin at 8:45 a.m. Saturday with participants meeting in the parking lot behind the Laceyville Fire Hall.
The event is organized annually by Laceyville Borough Councilman and his wife, Karen. Volunteers will clean up litter in Laceyville and Wyalusing and along Route 6 between the two communities. “This is a great way to foster community pride along with developing a network of concerned citizens,” Richard Rodgers said.
Rodgers said over 60 people have already expressed an interest in volunteering. Scouts, civic clubs and individuals are encouraged to take part. Last year’s event ended with a small mountain of trash collected by the volunteers.
Those participating will be provided with gloves, safety vests and trash bags.
Sandwiches will be provided by the Wyalusing Hotel, Cargill has donated hamburgers, the Wiser Choice Restaurant has donated hot dogs, and Jeanne DeRemer is baking a cake.
Water will also be provided, and this year instead of tee-shirts, Rodgers said each participant will receive a pine tree seedling to take home and plant.
In the event of rain, the clean-up will take place on the following Saturday, May 14.
