Flood Victims Must Register Quickly With FEMA
The most important information shared with the Rocket-Courier in the past two days by numerous emergency and municipal leaders is the fact that residents who experience property or other personal losses due to recent flooding must contact FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) immediately to acquire a registration number.
This can be accomplished by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362), logging on to www.DisasterAssistance.gov, or accessing m.fema.gov via a web-enabled mobile device. Flood victims with a speech disability or hearing loss who use a TTY may call 800-462-7585.
FEMA officials will also be stationed at Disaster Recovery Centers that have been set up at the Towanda Fire Department, 101 Elm St., Towanda, and at the Tunkhannock Area Administration Building, 41 Philadelphia Ave., Tunkhannock. It is best to have already made the initial contact with FEMA via phone or internet to acquire the registration number before meeting with the FEMA representatives at either of the aforementioned sites, as the applications can be processed much more quickly.
