Robert Packer Hospital Ranked First in State for Overall Health Care
Guthrie’s Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre was ranked number one in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and 21st nationally for overall hospital care in the 2011 Hospital Quality Awards. The rankings, released from The Delta Group, compare federally reported clinical data from virtually all 5,000 general, acute, non-federal hospitals in the country.
Robert Packer Hospital also earned Pennsylvania’s number one ranking for medical excellence in joint replacement and ranked third for neurosurgery out of the state's 170 facilities.
Robert Packer was in the top 10 percent of all hospitals nationwide for medical excellence for Cardiac Care; Major Cardiac Surgery (27th in Nation); GI Hemorrhage; Joint Replacement (32nd in Nation); Major Neurosurgery and Pulmonary Care.
The Delta Group, which administers the CareChex quality rankings through their National Quality Rating Database, developed from information on publicly available sources such as Hospital Quality Alliance, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Studies and CMS Medicare Provider Assessment and Review.
Marie Droege, President of RPH and Chief Operating Officer for the Guthrie Healthcare System, said these rankings represent the most objective measurement of a hospital’s performance. “You cannot request to be considered for these awards. You do not pay to market your standings on these lists. The only way to achieve these designations is to provide the highest quality health care possible and to do so consistently.”
Burdett Porter, MD, President of the RPH Medical Staff, advises patients to look to quality data when making health care decisions. “Today’s patients can more readily determine who is consistently providing the best care through quality reports and awards such as those published by The Delta Group. We encourage all patients to complete this kind of research when choosing where to get care.”
Mark Stensager, President and CEO of the Guthrie Healthcare System, said, "This kind of state and national recognition is only possible when every member of the team is working collaboratively toward the shared goal of patient-centered care. We are so proud of our employees, whether they are in direct patient care roles or support those who are. They have made excellence the standard at Guthrie.”
