Wyalusing Soldier Honored in Iraq

Sgt. Todd Johnson of Wyalusing was named the September Noncommissioned Officer of the Month for Task Force Olympia, the command and control element of Multinational Brigade-Northwest in Iraq.

Johnson is serving as a military dog handler, specializing in the detection of explosives. He was chosen to participate in the monthly competition based on his professionalism, physical fitness and military bearing. Candidates appear before a panel of senior noncommissioned officers, where they are quizzed on a variety of military subjects, as well as current world affairs.

At 26, Johnson has been in the Army seven years. He graduated from Wyalusing Valley High School in 1996. He is currently assigned to the Heidelburg, Germany-based 529th Military Police Company, which deployed to Iraq in August.
