Susquehanna Resident Dies in Oakland Twp. Crash

James J. Burchell, Jr., 22, Susquehanna RR 1, was pronounced dead at the scene of a traffic accident on state Rt. 92, Oakland Township, by Susquehanna County Coroner Tony Conarton on July 29 at 5:35 p.m. Burchell had not been wearing his seat belt when he lost control of his 2004 Acura RSX, traveling into the southbound lane and striking Jeffrey D. Babcock, 31, Susquehanna, who was driving a 1996 Dodge pickup. Babcock suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital in Binghamton, NY for treatment.

Burglary in Burlington

A burglary was reported in Burlington Township. The incident occurred between 9 p.m. on July 30 and 7:30 a.m. on the 31st when unknown suspects entered the barn of Donald Milton Walborn, of Towanda, and removed a 1987 TRX250 Honda 4-wheel ATV, red in color. The investigation is continuing.

Theft from a Motor Vehicle in Davidson Twp.

Theft from a motor vehicle was reported along Rt. 220 in Davidson Township, Sullivan County. The incident occurred between 3 p.m. on July 31 and 12:45 p.m. Aug. 2. Unknown suspects smashed the rear window of a 1988 Chevy Sprint owned by Brian Yetter, 52, of Owego, NY, and removed from the vehicle a tool box and an MTX-5000 speaker belonging to Brian Warner, 21, also of Owego. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact state police in Laporte at 570-946-4610.

Theft from a Motor Vehicle in Wysox

Theft from a motor vehicle was reported in Wysox at Ferrario Auto Center on Rt. 6. Between 7 p.m. on July 22 and 7 a.m. on the 23rd unknown suspects removed a tire with alloy rims from a Jeep Rubicon. Anyone with information is asked to call state police in Towanda at 570-265-2186.

Missing Woman Returns Home

Cynthia A. Robinson, 49, of Dushore, the woman reported missing in Wilkes-Barre in last week's Rocket-Courier, has returned safely to her residence and is no longer being sought.

Campers Lost and Found at Camp Brul?

A juvenile couple that was lost in the woods surrounding Camp Brul? in Elkland Township, Sullivan County, was found safe and sound at 5:41 a.m. on July 31. Rocio E. Sattler, 18, and a 16-year-old male walked into the woods the evening before between 8 and 8:30 p.m.

Teen Disturbs Woman at Home

There was a report of disorderly conduct at the Bermil Apartments in Mildred.

At 2 a.m. on July 31, Matthew Gibblets, 19, of Dushore, made unreasonable amounts of noise outside the apartment of Michelle Lynn Wildoner, Mildred, for about thirty minutes. Disorderly conduct charges will be filed against Gibblets.

Man Arrested at House Fire

A man was arrested at a house fire for disorderly conduct on Aug. 1 at 2:35 a.m. John Lee Bender, 42, of Forksville, was using obscene language and attempting to enter the area of the fire in Elkland Township, Sullivan County. After being ordered to refrain from such actions by a state trooper, Bender continued. He was arrested for misdemeanor disorderly conduct. Bender was arraigned and held on $2,500 bail.

Wysox Couple Cited for Harassment

Summary harassment was the citation given out to a Wysox couple after an argument turned physical. Misty and Kevin Coolbaugh, of Jackson's Trailer Court in Wysox, reported the incident that occurred at their residence on July 30 at 12:30 a.m. Misty, 27, related that Kevin pulled her hair. Kevin, 33, reported that Misty threw a full three-liter of soda at him.

Would-be Thief Damages Desired Goods

An attempted theft turned out to be criminal mischief in Wysox. Beverly Wilson, 52, of Towanda, reported that an unknown suspect tried to remove a battery from her tractor sometime between July 30 and Aug. 1. The would-be thief only damaged the battery, though. The investigation is continuing.

Rear-End Collision in Tuscarora Twp.

Minor injuries were suffered by a man in a two-car collision on July 21 at 11 a.m. Ken Holmes, 54, of Hughesville, was stopped on Rt. 6 West waiting to turn into a Dandy Mini Mart in Tuscarora Township in a 1996 Chevy Lumina. Thomas Parsons, 58, of New Albany, was driving in the same lane in a 1996 International truck, failed to stop and struck the Lumina in the rear. Holmes was transported to Tyler Hospital.

Speed Citation Issued after Rollover

Two Kingston teens escaped injury in an accident that occurred at World's End State Park in Forks Township on Aug. 1 at 10:30 p.m. Charles Debonis and his passenger, Ryan Pringle, both 18, failed to negotiate a left curve while traveling north on Rt. 154 in a 2002 Suzuki Aerio. The vehicle went off the berm and struck a rock and a tree, causing the vehicle to roll on the driver's side. Debonis was cited for speeding, which caused the accident. Both occupants of the car were wearing seat belts.

Rear-End Collision in Wysox

A woman received minor injuries in a two-car collision on July 31 at 11:40 a.m. Heidi Cook, 37, of Towanda, was attempting to turn left onto Pennsylvania Avenue along Rt. 6 in Wysox. David Burdick, 22, of Towanda, was traveling east in the same lane in a 1994 Mercury Tracer and impacted with the rear of the Chevy Tracker driven by Cook. Burdick suffered no injuries, but Cook had minor ones.

Girl Flees Scene of Accident

A woman fled the scene after she drove her 1992 Ford into a ditch on Huddle Road in Windham Township. On July 30 at 9:30 p.m., Bobi Jo Noto, 21, of Rome, was traveling south on Huddle Road when she lost control of the vehicle and went off the road into a ditch. Noto fled the scene and did not report the accident. The young woman sustained no injuries.

Hit and Run in Nicholson

Police are investigating a hit and run accident on Spadini Hill Road, SR 1031 in Nicholson Township. The police say that on July 31 at 5:45 a.m., an unknown vehicle was traveling east on the roadway and drove off the south berm and collided with an electrical utility pole, knocking it to the ground. The vehicle then drove back onto the roadway and fled the scene. The unknown car or truck will have front-end damage and may have dual rear tires. It is also possible that the vehicle was helped from the scene by another vehicle.

The incident is being investigated.

Anti-Kerry Campaigner Arrested in Nicholson

Eric Greisch, of Montvale, NJ, was arrested on July 20 at 4 p.m., the Pump -N- Pantry on Rt. 11 in Nicholson Borough. Police say Greisch was telling store clerks that he had just escaped from the state prison and was shouting obscenities and "Senator John Kerry must be stopped." Greisch was arrested on two counts of disorderly conduct and arraigned before Magistrate Carl Smith, Jr.

Burglary Reported In Springville

Someone entered the home of Edward Zajaczkowski, state Rt. 3017, Springville, between July 22-28 through an unlocked door, removing a ram and salmon mount, a PlayStation with six games and a couple of turkey calls.

Rush Twp. Home Robbed

A young white male, about 14-15 years old, riding a small bike, entered the Hugh F. Bunnell residence at Township Route 429, Rush Township, and while Bunnell was away at lunch began going through a chest in the upstairs bedroom. When Bunnell returned, he conversed with the boy and did not observe anything missing so he let him go without reporting the incident. Later, Bunnell discovered a Colt .38 revolver, a cell phone and a portable CD player missing.

Suspect Sought in Hallstead Robbery

A black male, about five-feet four-inches tall, in his late teens or early twenties, wearing a gray sweatshirt with baggy jeans and a baseball hat on backwards entered the Ultimate Massage, state Rt. 11, Hallstead, and held employees at gunpoint while taking cash and personal belongings of the employees. Other identifying features included a gap in his front teeth and a gold tooth. He carried a silver handgun with a scope. No injuries occurred, and the suspect fled the scene.

Lawn Ornaments Stolen

Someone removed a concrete pig ornament and a square block of bluestone from a pillar at the end of the driveway of William McDermott, Chalfont, at his residence on Hibbard Rd., Rush Township, between July 16-26.

Minor Injuries Reported in Crash

Linda N. Spieler, 46, Palm Harbor, FL, pulled out of state Rt. 8009 at state Rt. 492, New Milford Township, in front of Patricia Cramer, 44, New Milford. Spieler and passenger and two passengers in Cramer's vehicle had minor injuries.

Trailer Stolen from Truck Stop

Liedjka Truck Co., Trenton, NJ, reported that someone stole a 1998 flatbed Transcraft trailer with ME registration at the Gibson Truck Stop, New Milford Township. The trailer was red and loaded with metal piping. The incident occurred between July 23-26.

Harassment Charges to be Filed

State police investigated an incident of harassment that occurred on July 23 in Wysox. Between 9:45 and 10 p.m., Arthur L. Decker, 27, of Wysox, harassed Josh L. Pelton, 22, and April M. Howard, 18, in front of their residence. Charges will be filed against Decker.

Dushore Man Injured in Accident

A driver was transported to the hospital for injuries sustained in a crash that occurred on Aug. 3 at 3 p.m.

Michael Beatty, 44, of Dushore, was traveling north on Rt. 87 in Forks Township in a 1997 Ford Explorer when he drifted off the road on a left curve. The vehicle struck a rocky embankment and continued up for approximately 20 feet then traveled down the opposite side in reverse. Striking several large rocks, the Ford went off the edge and dropped 10-15 feet, coming to a rest. Dushore ambulance transported Beatty to Towanda Memorial. The Explorer sustained severe damage.
