Albany Valley Challenge Scheduled for Sept. 25

The Albany Valley Challenge, a five-kilometer run/walk, will be held on Saturday, Sept. 25 in New Albany.

The race is part of the Albany Valley Fall Festival, which is sponsored by the Albany Rotary Village Corps and New Albany borough, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary this year.

Seven age-group categories will compete in men's and women's divisions.

The overall men's and women's winners will receive trophies. Medals for first, second and third place finishers in the other categories will be presented.

There is a $50 cash prize for the winner of the run and a $25 prize for the walk winner. Only independent runners will be eligible for the cash prize.

Mike Bronson holds the men's record with a time of 18:40, while Lori Kingsley holds the women's mark with a time of 20:24.

T-shirts will be given to the first 60 people to sign up for the race.

Sign-up begins on race day at 10 a.m. The run is slated to begin at 11 a.m.

Monies raised from the race will be used for improvements at New Albany Park.
