Area Collegians Begin Track Campaigns
A pair of Elk Lake graduates competed in the Bucknell Opener indoor track and field meet on Dec. 3.
Cassie VanEtten, a freshman at Shippensburg University, was seventh in her 800-meter heat in a time of 2:25.73. She also ran a leg on a 1600 relay that finished third in its heat with a time of 3:58.11.
Kelsey Hermick, a freshman at Susquehanna University, was third in her 300-meter heat with a time of 45.75. She ran a leg on the 1600 relay team that finished fourth in its heat with a time of 4:14.41.
At Cornell University, on Dec. 3, another pair of former Elk Lake thinclads competed in the Cornell Relays.
Caitie Good, a sophomore at Mansfield University, was 18th out of 72 competitors in the 300 with a time of 43.64. She also ran a leg on the 1600 relay that finished 17th in a time of 4:35.67.
Sean Carney, a freshman at Syracuse University, was 14th in the 500 with a time of 1:09.33. He also ran a leg on the seventh-place 3200 relay that posted a time of 8:17.78.
Misericordia Men’s Basketball
The Cougars, coached by Wyalusing Valley graduate Trevor Woodruff, dropped their MAC Freedom Conference opener to Wilkes, 78-50, on Nov. 30.
Ethan Eichhorst paced Misericordia with 11 points.
On Dec. 3, Misericordia defeated Manhattanville, 66-42, behind a 27-point outing from Eichhorst.
Susquehanna defeated Misericordia, 60-58, on Dec. 5, dropping the Cougars’ record to 6-2.
Eichhorst paced Misericordia with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
