Area Runners Take on Boilermaker 15K

 

At Utica, NY, on July 10, a large contingent of local and area runners were among the 11,000-plus runner field in the Boilermaker 15K.

Morocco’s Ridouane Harrouti was the overall winner in 43:30, followed by Kenyans Peter Kamais (43:31) and Shadrack Kosgei (43:48).

Kenya’s Alic Timbilili was the women’s winner in 48:40, followed by Ethiopia’s Belainesh Zemedkun (48:45) and Russia’s Alevtina Ivanova (49:37).

Locally, Wyalusing’s Mike Murphy finished 233rd in a time of 58:34. His wife, Rachel, was 949th in 1:07:20.

Dave Keeler, also of Wyalusing, finished in a time of 1:37:14.

Hallstead’s Steve Esposito was the top area finisher, crossing the line 100th in 53:49. Other Susquehanna County finishers included: Hallstead’s Theron Page, Jr. (1:14:15); Brackney’s Cal Brown (1:23:24), Felicia Brown (1:36:11) and Tom Hamlin (2:32:55); Montrose’s Leslie Foster (1:27:15) and Jacqueline Harvilla (1:48:13).

Other Bradford County finishers were: Sayre’s Greg Hughey (1:02:52), Jennifer Wakely (1:18:52), Jennifer Hughey (1:20:17), Traci Crane (1:30:00), Judson Wakely (1:32:32) and Dick Johnston (1:37:35); Granville Summit’s Lisa Butler (1:10:30); Athens’ Greg Crane (1:13:35); Rome’s Sandy Morris (1:39:51) and Mickey Morris (1:39:51) and Ulster’s Arnold Love (1:50:50).

Jamie L. White of Nicholson finished in 1:49:47.

In the 5K, which was won by New York State’s Sam Anderson in 16:38, Rome’s Alex Morris competed, finishing in 35:52.

Cassandra Goodman, also of New York State, was the top female in 18:16.

 

Admiral Stark 5K

Jeff Bachak won the race in 17:19 at Lake Carey, on July 9.

Dan Toye was second in 18:33, followed by Jack Tidball in 18:34.

Tessa Barrett, fourth, overall, in 18:48 was the women’s winner.

Kerry Zawadski was second with a time of 22:20. Tammy Chow placed third in 22:37.

Forty-four runners completed the course.

 

Pocono XTerra 5

At Earth Conservancy in Mocanaqua, on July 9, Jim Downey won the enduro race in a time of 1:41:10. Tony Korch was second in 1:43:01, followed by Mike Verton in 1:49:39.

Jess Dymund won the women’s race in a time of 2:08:25. Jen Stec-Gagliardi was second in 2:10:14, and Sara Jones was third in 2:18:06.

 

Parlor City 5K

Jeff Martinez won the race at Binghamton, on July 9,  in 15:33, followed by Stephen Marcin (16:55) and Josh Schultheis (17:31).

Danielle Brenon was the top female with a winning time of 19:00. Teresa Hunter was next in 20:33, followed by Jennifer Butts in 21:03.

 

Broome County Triathlon

At Dorchester Park, NY, a total of 143 individuals and 14 teams completed the swim, bike and run triathlon on July 2.

Chris Nocera of Pittsburgh was the overall winner in 1:02:04, followed by Michael Grygus (1:06:35) and Keith Murray (1:08:44).

Yvette DeBoer of Ithaca was the overall female in 1:16:47, followed by Stephanie Gardner (1:19:34) and Ashley Collier (1:20:15).

The top male team was Bringing Sexy Back with a time of 1:19:45. Least Lightning won as Masters Co-Ed team in 1:28:01. The team named We Race for William Leudemann Too! was the top Open Co-Ed team, finishing in 1:30:04. That’s What She Said claimed Open Female team honors in 1:39:00.

Montrose was well represented in the event, led by Matthew Nebzydoski’s 12th-place finish in 1:18:13. Jerome Washo finished in 1:18:39. Other finishers from Montrose included: Daniel Wood (1:22:18), Rob Davis (1:22:24), Ray Gillen (1:27:01), Ashley Johnson (1:27:29) and Kori Wood (1:31:57).

Other Susquehanna County finishers in the event included Thompson’s Ashley Tierney (1:27:43); Brackney’s Diana Bean (1:37:06) and Tom Hamlin (2:59:53); Little Meadows’ Ariana Rife (1:41:41) and Rush’s Roy Husung (1:42:27).

Hannah Harvey-Sampson of Athens finished in 1:25:01. Lawrence Sampson, also from Athens, had a time of 1:35:29.

Tunkhannock’s Robert Sherwood finished in 1:33:34.
