Auto Racing Roundup: Ely Wins IMCA Feature t Dunn Hill
Wyalusing’s Harry Ely won the IMCA Modified feature at Dunn Hill 2 Speedway on Aug. 26.
Ely, who scored his second victory of the season, took the lead after an early caution and held off Eddie Sites and Victor McNeal.
In Front Wheel Drive, Klem Underwood took the checkers ahead of Marcus Wood and Trevor Belcher.
Stan Matthews won the Factory Stock feature over Kurtis Benjamin and Brad Sites.
In Street Stocks, Doug Stack held off Ricky Davis, Jr. and Ben Hulslander.
Eric Ellsworth survived a late challenge from Ed Hulslander to win the Mini Stock feature. Tyler Belcher was third.
The track will host its final points race of the season on Friday, Sept. 2.
Penn Can Speedway
At Susquehanna, PA, on Aug. 26, Butch Tittle won the Modified feature over Mike Schane and Kevin Hartnett.
Adam McGeorge took the Sportsman checkers ahead of Jeff Crambo and Mike Nagel, Jr.
Dan Snyder won the Late Model feature over Tracy Gregory and Paul Strohl.
Ken Sparks, Jr. won the Street Stock feature over Shane Wolf, Jr. and Ryan Stone.
Nick Grist held off Robbie Fiene and Phil Burns in the Four Cylinder finale.
Gary Cleveland won the Factory Stock feature over Rob Warner and Lanson Albanese.
At Chemung, NY, on Aug. 26, Rusty Smith and Jimmy Zacharias split a pair of Modified features on the final night of the season.
Smith’s win came in a make-up race from earlier in the season. Matt Kurzejewski was second, followed by Zacharias.
Zacharias, who clinched the 2011 track championship, led Zach Curren and Kurzejewski to the line in the regularly-slated feature.
Matt Pappa won the Legends feature over Van Michael and Daren Scherer.
Frank Morich took the Four Cylinder checkers ahead of Nick Haner and Tony Gullo. The race was called after just two laps when a rhubarb broke out in the pits during a red flag for a major accident.
Alexandria Smith won the Bandoleros feature over David French and Nick Morich.
Mike Alcaro (Legends), Tony Gullo (Four Cylinders) and David French (Bandoleros) also won track titles.
Shangri-La II Speedway
At Tioga Center, NY, on Aug. 27, Tony Hanbury edged Bryan Sherwood and Matt Kurzejewski to win the Sportsman feature,
Gil Sharpsteen took the Street Stock checkers ahead of Charlie Sharpsteen and Chris Zacharias.
Jim Lamoreaux won the Late Model feature over Joe Brown and Josh Lloyd.
Jimmy Zacharias (Sportsman), Lee Sharpsteen (Street Stocks) and Joe Brown (Late Model) clinched the 2011 track championships.
The Aug. 27 program at the Homets Ferry facility was cancelled due to the impending arrival of Hurricane Irene.
As a result, the slated Northern Tier Nationals will be made up as part of the Microsprint portion of the Audrey Rosengrant Memorial on Sunday, Sept. 18.
