College Roundup: Misericordia Men Open Season
The Misericordia men’s basketball team, coached by Wyalusing Valley graduate Trevor Woodruff, opened the 2011-12 campaign with a 96-68 win over Centenary on Nov. 15.
Ethan Eichhorst led Misericordia with 17 points.
Eichhorst reached the 1,000-point career mark with an 18-point outing in the opening game of the Laurel Line Tournament on Nov. 18.
Misericordia defeated Baptist Bible, 85-58, in the tournament’s opening round.
In the championship final on Nov. 19, Jeff Slanovec netted 15 points to pace the Cougars to a 62-60 win over Marywood.
Justin Grotevant clinched the victory for the Cougars with a pair of free throws with 36 seconds to play.
Mark Cruver
Cruver, a Wyalusing Valley graduate and member of the Keystone College men’s basketball team, had a rebound, one assist and a steal in a 95-78 win over Ursinus in the opening round of the Resler Tournament at Rochester on Nov. 18.
Rochester won the championship game, 91-77, over the Giants, who dropped to 2-1.
Jehiel Boner
Boner, an Elk Lake graduate and member of the Lycoming College swim team, competed on two relays in a 131-71 loss to Misericordia on Nov. 16.
He was on the third-place 200 freestyle relay, which had a time of 1:46.02. Boner also swam a leg of the fifth-place 200 medley relay that covered the distance in 2:02.41.
