College Roundup: WVHS Grad Leads Penn College to Two Wins

Jared Johnson, a Wyalusing Valley graduate and member of the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team, had two hits and drove in a run in a 7-2 win over Danville Community College on March 10.

Earlier, on March 9, Johnson had two hits and three RBIs in a 12-11 win over Eastern.



Sarah Hoffman

Hoffman, a Wyalusing Valley graduate and sophomore pitcher for the Susquehanna University softball team, suffered her first loss of the season, a 7-2 decision to Guilford in Orlando, FL, on March 9.

She worked six innings, allowing six hits and three walks while fanning two batters in the loss.

Earlier, on March 8, she pitched the first two innings of a 20-0 victory over Cedar Crest, retiring six batters in 16 pitches.

On March 15, Hoffman tossed a three-hitter in a 2-1 loss at York College. She had three strikeouts and three walks in six innings of work.



Mike Martin

Martin, a Wyalusing Valley graduate and member of the Mansfield University baseball team, was the starting pitcher in a 7-6 win over Concordia on March 7.

He worked 1 1/3 innings, giving up two hits, four walks and four runs, while striking out two batters.



Baptist Bible Softball

Karin Mowry, an Elk Lake graduate, had four hits and drove in five runs in a doubleheader sweep of Penn State-Abington on March 8.

In the first game, an 11-7 Baptist Bible victory, Mowry, who started at third base, belted a pair of doubles, scored two runs and drove in three more. She also walked once.

Kim Caines, an Elk Lake graduate, added a stolen base as a pinch runner for Baptist Bible in the victory.

In the nightcap, a 7-2 Baptist Bible win, Mowry had a pair of singles, two RBIs and a stolen base.
