Dunn Hill 2 Speedway Honors 2011 Champs
Dunn Hill 2 Speedway honored its 2011 champions at its annual awards dinner at the Wysox Fire Hall on Saturday, Dec. 10.
The top 10 drivers in each of the Monroeton-area track’s five weekly divisions were recognized.
Each driver received a plaque or trophy along with a check from the points fund. Each champion also received a framed 28x40-inch victory lane photo.
The 2011 track champions included Klem Underwood (Front Wheel Drive), Eric Ellsworth (Mini Stock), Brad Sites (Factory Stock), Ernie Martin (Street Stock) and Eddie Sites (IMCA Modified).
Rookie of the Year awards in each division went to Underwood (Front Wheel Drive), Tyler Belcher (Mini Stocks), Brad Sites (Factory Stock), Bill Price, Jr. (Street Stock) and Victor McNeal (IMCA Modified).
The Most Improved Driver awards went to Rick Sinsabaugh (Front Wheel Drive), Shane Brown (Mini Stock), Kurtis Benjamin (Factory Stock), Josh Ames (Street Stock) and Harry Ely (IMCA Modified).
Marcus Wood (Front Wheel Drive), J.R. Bush (Mini Stock), Benjamin (Factory Stock), Ricky Davis, Sr. (Street Stock) and Mat Sobiech (IMCA Modified) won the Best Appearing Car awards.
Three other special awards were presented.
Chris Conrad won the Wild Ride Award for his rollover between the first and second turns earlier in the year. After climbing from his vehicle, he climbed upon it and did a dance.
Kenny Underwood took home the Hard Luck Award. Underwood battled through numerous mechanical and tire failures during the campaign.
The Professionalism and Enthusiasm Award went to IMCA champion Eddie Sites.
Although Sites won his share of races, “when things did not go his way, he never let that bother him,” according to the track’s press release.
“He was always the first driver to congratulate his fellow competitors when they took the win. He never had a bad word to say about any of the calls made at the track or about any of the on-track action that didn’t always go his way.”
During the final month of the season, fans had their chance to vote for their favorite drivers.
The Favorite Driver awards went to Donna Belcher (Front Wheel Drive); Tyler Belcher (Mini Stock); Kurtis Benjamin and Brad Sites (Factory Stock); Jason Benjamin (Street Stock) and Don Cole (IMCA Modified).
Track promoter Mark Spencer announced that a rules meeting will be held in early January. He also stated there will be no changes in the divisions competing on a weekly basis at the track.
The Wysox Fire Company Auxiliary prepared the dinner. Eric Ellsworth’s DJ Service provided the entertainment.
