Elk Lake Softball Coach Reaches Milestone
Elk Lake softball coach Tony Blaisure picked up his 400th career win with a 10-0 victory over Western Wayne on April 14.
Brooke Darling tossed a two hitter, recording 11 strikeouts in the victory.
Gabby Baltzley homered, doubled and singled for the Lady Warriors. Darling, Casey Tyler and Bri Hollenbeck each had two hits.
Sara Kwiatkowsky doubled to lead a four-hit Elk Lake attack in a 3-1 victory over Lackawanna Trail. Baltzley, Kenzi Moon and Tyler each singled for the Lady Warriors.
Darling scattered five hits, while fanning nine batters, to pick up the victory.
On April 18, Elk Lake scored twice in the top of the third inning to erase a 1-0 deficit en route to a 2-1 victory at Blue Ridge.
Baltzley, who scored the winning run, paced the Lady Warriors with a pair of doubles. Darling added a triple and a single. Laura Gacha added a single.
Darling gave up just one hit—a first-inning home run by Gabby Wolfe. She struck out eight and walked three batters.
On April 18, Elk Lake was held to just four hits in a 3-1 loss to Blue Ridge.
Holden Lunger had a pair of hits for the Warriors. Jeff Horvath and Nick Dudock each singled.
Lunger started, fanning 11 batters and giving up just three hits and one walk. Damien Dailey pitched one inning of scoreless relief.
On April 14, Western Wayne defeated Elk Lake, 2-1.
Lunger, Dudock, Horvath and Ricky Guiton accounted for Elk Lake’s hits in the loss.
Dailey took the loss, despite tossing a five hitter.
On April 19, Forest City blanked Elk Lake, 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-16).
Mark Smurkowski led Elk Lake with seven kills. He also served up a pair of aces.
Bo Bushnell made 10 digs and three blocks.
Track and Field
Three Elk Lake school records were set in a dual-meet with Riverside on April 14.
Cindy Good set a new standard in the 100 hurdles with a time of 16.8 seconds.
Mike Bedell broke the boys’ 800 record with a time of 1:56.0.
In the pole vault, Jeremy Schwartzrauber established a new record with a height of 11 feet, three inches.
