Elk Lake Spikers Defeat Blue Ridge

 

Carley Bennett had eight kills and Michaela Boner added five kills as Elk Lake defeated Blue Ridge, 3-2, in girls’ volleyball on Oct. 17.

After dropping the first game, 25-22, Elk Lake bounced back, taking the second game, 27-25, and the third game, 25-18. Blue Ridge evened the match with a 25-14 win in the fourth game. Elk Lake sealed the win with a 17-15 win in the fifth game.

Bennett also had six aces, three digs and a block for the Lady Warriors.

Boner had three aces.

Katie VanEtten and Susanne Tewksbury each dished out six assists. Tewksbury added four aces. VanEtten had three digs.

 

Field Hockey

On Oct. 12, Elk Lake blanked Montrose, 5-0.

Trevor Gowin had a pair of goals. Steven Paskaitis, Dylan Simmons and Jeremy Schwartrauber also scored.

Paskaitis and Kristy Krishak had assists.

Brooke Seamans made three saves in net for Elk Lake.

On Oct. 11, Elk Lake defeated Hanover Area, 3-1.

Gowin scored twice and Paskaitis added another goal for Elk Lake.

Paskaitis, Simmons and Vanessa Otis each had an assist.

Luke Myers had three saves.

 

Cross Country

On Oct. 12, the Elk Lake girls defeated Holy Cross, 15-47, and Scranton Prep, 22-36.

Prep’s Tessa Barrett was the overall race winner in 19:06. Elk Lake’s Maria Trowbridge was second in 20:07, followed by teammates Jenny VanEtten (20:18) and Kirsten Hollister (20:34). Other Elk Lake times included Lainey Bedell (21:07), Abby Zdancewicz (21:13) and Emily Williams (21:51).

In the boys’ meet, Elk Lake lost to Holy Cross, 24-31, and Scranton Prep, 25-33.

Elk Lake’s Luke Jones was the overall race winner in 16:20. Will Bennett was third in 17:05.

 

Girls’ Tennis

On Oct. 12, two Elk Lake teams competed in the District Two doubles’ championships.

Meghan Bush and Lydia Watkins won their Class AA play-in match over Holy Cross’s Galen Mayorowski and Lindsey Greenwood, 6-0, 6-1. They were eliminated in first-round action, losing to Wyoming Seminary’s Nathalie Joanlanne and Sheena Syal, 6-0, 6-0.

Hannah Cave and Taylor Watkins lost to Seminary’s Emma Spath and Jane Henry, 6-3, 6-2.

 

Boys’ Soccer

On Oct. 17, Holy Cross’s Aaron Matis scored his third goal for the game-winner midway through the second half to defeat Elk Lake, 3-2.

Matt Cuomo scored twice for Elk Lake. Tanner Reyen added an assist.

Nick Dudock made 20 saves for the Warriors.

On Oct. 13, Montrose defeated Elk Lake, 4-0.

The Meteors outshot Elk Lake, 18-6.

Dudock had 12 saves for the Warriors.

On Oct. 11, Elk Lake blanked St. Gregory’s, 3-0.

Reyen scored a goal and assisted on Alex Manzek’s goal. Cody Franssen also scored.

Ryan Wilson and Cuomo each had assists.

Dudock made four saves.
