Four Area Players Named to First-Team
Four area softball players were named first-team all-state by the Pennsylvania Softball Coaches Association recently.
Wyalusing Valley’s Brianna Jennings was named to the Class A first team as a designated player.
Elk Lake’s Brooke Darling and Gabby Baltzley and Towanda’s Cassie Benjamin were named to the Class AA first team. Darling made the team as a pitcher, while Baltzley was voted in as a designated player. Benjamin made the team as a shortstop.
Jennings, a senior who will play at the University of Delaware next season, had a 1.06 E.R.A. while recording 194 strikeouts for the Lady Rams. At the plate, she batted .400 with six home runs and 28 RBIs.
Darling, bound for Columbia University this fall, finished the year with a 0.31 E.R.A. At the plate, she hit .456.
Baltzley, a senior, earned the honor with stellar defense as a catcher and a .397 batting average.
Wyalusing’s Gabby Edsell and Bobbi Jo Loyack, both seniors, made the Class A second team.
Edsell, a catcher, batted .348 with one home run and 12 RBIs.
Loyack made the list at third base. She batted .319 with seven RBIs.
Northeast Bradford had four girls on the Class A list.
Junior Haylie Phillips and freshman Calla Martin made the second team at pitcher and designated player, respectively.
Senior Alycia Parks made the honorable mention list as an outfielder. Junior Taylor Keefe made the list at shortstop.
Towanda’s Lexi Ripic, a senior, was a Class AA second-team selection at second base.
