Huffman Paces Lady Ram Harriers to NTL Wins
The Wyalusing Valley girls’ cross country team, paced by race winner Erika Huffman, swept a tri-meet at Canton, which also included Sayre.
Wyalusing defeated Canton, 20-41, and Sayre, 25-32.
Huffman’s winning time was 20:26. Pam Kelley was third, overall, for the Lady Rams, with a time of 22:27. Mackenzie Martin, Arielle Kneller and Savannah Schools also posted top 10 finishes. Martin ran seventh in 23:13. Kneller was ninth in 24:20. Schools finished tenth in 24:54.
Other places and times included Emily Edwards (12, 26:55), Carlyn Edsell (13, 27:38) and Logan Steele (17, 28:16).
In the boys’ meet, Canton defeated Wyalusing, 21-39, and Sayre downed the Rams, 21-34.
Tyler Sutton led Wyalusing with a fourth-place time of 17:13. Aaron Woodruff finished ninth in 17:52.
Rounding out the top five for Wyalusing were Brenten Gerould (14, 18:20), Matt Woodruff (16, 18:39) and Mark Kusmierz (18, 18:46).
The other times included Cody Pickett (20, 20:28), Clinton Crawford (24, 21:18), Jordan Schools (25, 21:52), Dominic Ciccolini (26, 22:03) and Brian Sanger (30, 22:55).
Lackawanna County Commissioners’ Invitational
At Scranton’s McDade Park, on Sept. 17, Wyalusing’s Huffman finished second in the varsity girls’ race.
Huffman’s time of 19:10 was just six seconds off the pace of overall race winner Catherine Lombardo from Pittston Area.
The Lady Rams finished tenth in the team standings with 217 points. They were tied with Valley View, but the Lady Cougars were awarded ninth based on the best sixth runner. Elk Lake won the team title with 47 points.
Martin was second for Wyalusing, finishing 52nd, overall, in 23:04. Other places and times included Kneller (54, 23:06), Schools (64, 24:04), Steele (72, 25:00), Edwards (80, 26:20) and Edsell (83, 26:30).
In the boys’ race, Wyalusing was fifth in the team standings with 155 points, just 13 back of Elk Lake, the defending Class AA state champions. Blue Ridge won the team title with 82 points, followed by Wyoming Valley West (119), Pleasant Valley (135) and Elk Lake (142).
Sutton was the Rams’ top finisher, crossing the line 12th in a time of 17:01.
