Local Girl Wins Junior Olympic Gold

Amber Marie Kinney, daughter of Frank and Belinda Kinney of Terry Township, won a gold medal on July 4 in the standing long jump at the Junior Olympics held in Sea Isle City, NJ.

Competing in the nine-year-old division against 23 other girls, Kinney jumped 61.5 inches to win the competition.

She also finished fourth in the ball throw and the 50-yard dash.

Amber, now 10, will enter the fifth grade at Wyalusing Elementary this fall.

She is involved in a number of activities including elementary cheerleading which she has done for eight years.

She has studied dance at Whipple Dance Studio for eight years. Last December, she had the opportunity to perform at the Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre with the Moscow Ballet.

She is a junior Girl Scout, a varsity and junior football manager and plays Little League softball.
