Local Runners Shine in Boston Marathon

 

One, if by land…

Wysox’s Lori Kingsley captured her age-group and posted an impressive 68th-place overall finish in the Boston Marathon on Monday.

The veteran runner crossed the line in 2:51:02, well ahead of her closest 45-49 age-group competitor.

Wyalusing’s Michael Murphy and Rachel Murphy also had strong races.

Michael Murphy was 1,215th, overall, with a time of 2:58:09. He was 831st in the 18-39 men’s age-group.

Rachel Murphy completed the 26-plus mile race in 3:11:41. She was 3,147th, overall, and 211th in her 18-39 age-group.

Other runners of local interest included Sayre’s Dr. Burdett Porter (3:38:11) and Nicholson’s John Kwiatkowski (3:38:43) and Michael Meagher (4:23:09).

Kenya’s Geoffrey Mutai was the overall winner with a time of 2:03:02, beating his countryman, Moses Mosop, by four seconds.

Caroline Kilel, also of Kenya, was the top female, crossing the line in 2:22:36, edging Michigan’s Desiree Davila by two seconds.

 

King’s 5K

At Wilkes-Barre, on April 17, Bennett Williams won the race in 19:00. Tunkhannock’s Brian Thomas was second in 19:45, followed by Jeff Austin in 21:00.

Alana Rizzo paced the females with a time of 25:44, followed by Mary Staburksi (26:18) and Stacy Lee (27:15).

Fifty-two runners and walkers participated.

 

Harvey’s Lake Run

On April 16, at Harvey’s Lake, Jeff McCabe topped the 50-runner field with a time of 46:00. John Martino was second in 47:47, followed by Towanda’s Aaron Valoroso (49:11).

Deedra Porfiro led the women with a time of 54:21, followed by Monica Obsitos (56:15) and Jennifer Heck (58:59).

 

Running of the Royals

At Scranton, on April 16, Leo Kolshorn won the race with a time of 20:28, followed by Jim Dunn (21:49) and Ryan Robeson (22:38).

Beth Schwab topped the women’s race in the 60-runner field with a time of 20:47, followed by Kelsey Dunn (22:23) and Ashley Launinaitis (22:27).

 

Holy Rosary 5K

On April 16, at Duryea, Jamie Connors won the race in 20:49, followed by Kevin Kizis (22:42) and Nick Kich (22:53.

Hanna Sulkowski was the female winner in 24:08, followed by Michelle Mariotti (24:15) and Natalie Sulkowski (24:35).
